When Dr. Alex Reid (Erica Durance) gets a call that her alarm is going off, she arrives home to an unexpected surprise. Then, with one of the participants in her cancer trial with Dr. Maggie Lin (Julia Taylor Ross) not responding to medication, Alex and Maggie are forced to turn to Dr. Charlie Harris (Michael Shanks), the newly-appointed Chief of Surgery, for his opinion when they can’t agree on a method of treatment. Meanwhile, Dr. Zach Miller (Benjamin Ayres) is reluctantly transitioning the E.R. to an Urgent Care facility, until a patient who challenges societal conventions persuades Zach not to settle for second best.
Wow, everything at Hope Zion going up in smoke! Really feel for Zach, hoping things somehow turn around and he can be convinced to stay.
Thinking Charlie changed his mind about being Chief because he no longer has to balance things with Alex as he said, and maybe also taking his own ghostly advice...going back to who he was before his own accident.
Very hard episode to watch being that I'm a Chalex fan.... I can't stand them apart. I know the idea is to get them all nicely back together in the end and the hospital back to itself and all of that, but I hate this sort of dramatic turn. They did this in Grey's Anatomy and I hated it there too... in that sense I am quite disappointed with the current direction the show is taking because I think SH is just so much better than GA and they shouldn't follow this line which has been done in so many hospital shows, it's boring and frustrating at the same time cause everybody knows where this will lead in the end.
On the brighter side, at least the new admin isn't totally brutal. He seems to genuinely believe in what he is doing... I like the non black and white characterization of this show. I also think that at least Many isn't devouring Alex.... he's actually being a gentleman... she on the other side seems to like him too much for my liking. I mean... she's supposed to love Charlie- she left him cause she thought she was bad for him, not because she didn't feel for him anymore... I can get Charlie - he was dumped... though again, he loves Alex so... sigh...
I think Charlie and Alex's problem has always been lack of communication. Charlie didn't want to reveal his ghost ability, and when he walked away they didn't really talk and Alex started to get drawn to Joel. Now they haven't really talked since their fight and it's just been a bit of bickering each episode. They're pushing each other away...I think they need to lock them in a room together and get them to talk.
