Airing now in the UK, Thursday in Canada and next Tuesday night in the US
While planning her mother's memorial service, Alex treats a young chronic kidney patient who has a "savior sibling" who is going to donate one of her kidneys, but when she presents with a cardiac virus, the sick sister becomes the savior. Meanwhile, Maggie and Sydney rediscover and rekindle their relationship while treating an interesting young couple.
Just finished watching the episode and decided I have to leave a comment here. So, what do I think about it.
As always, there are great stories in it, I love especially those which are not about Charlie and Alex because they are usually much better. Of course this week's story was good too although I have to confess it was extremely predictable. When they diagnosed the younger sister with the virus spreading to her heart I knew her older sister would give her heart instead of receiving a kidney.
It was emotional and I sure had some little tears in my eyes as they usually do a great job in getting the emotional stuff done, but I was mostly disappointed by the rest of the story.
a) Alex all of a sudden consults Charlie in ghost stuff?? WTF - like if it was suddenly the most normal thing to do. Maybe I've missed out on something here but it's kinda too good to be true. On the other hand, she loves him and trusts him, so why not.
b) At the beginning of the episode they made it look like Charlie might not be sure if he really wants to get back with Alex, which I would have considered totally legit. This on and off thing usually really sucks. But I get it, they are meant for each other and so finally they join hands and back together they are. Maybe finally we can get back to seeing some more weird ghost stuff with Charlie.
c) Charlie's arm hurts, I wonder what's wrong ...
d) This young doctor who's name I just forgot who made the timetables, she's a real pain in the ass - seriously! Get her fired!
All in all I liked the episode, but I wouldn't say it amazed me, I think we've seen better ones, but I'm open for what's to come and after all, it's just my opinion.
The ghost/medical story was touching but fairly predictable. Charlie was great/cute with the youngsters as usual.
Alex knows and trusts Charlie's ability, I think she just avoids it whenever possible. In this case she was desperate to save alive, and maybe working with Dawn and Cassie who are used to Charlie's antics made it easier to turn to him.
Charlie's arm keeps bugging him, similar to Alex's hand in Season 3. We'll see if anything comes of it or if it goes away over time
I think we know deep own Charlie still wants to be with Alex, he just doesn't know where they stand with everything that's happened recently. She didn't even tell him she was pregnant, he had to find the test and hear it from Dougie. The pregnancy makes them work things out one way or another.
Yes, I totally agree with you on all your points. I think and hope the second half of the season will answer those question and offer many interesting stories.
As I've said, I really find the "side-stories" extremely interesting most of the time and I just hope the framework plot will also get a little more interesting and they'll stop the on and off stuff between Alex and Charlie. It's about time they resolved their issues told each other what they think as honest as possible, especially Charlie.
One thing's still missing for me. As I remember they've promised us that the ghost will get a little meaner but so far I can't see where that might be. But I also remember their headline of season 4 or 3 being sex, lies and whatever (don't remember correctly) which sounded more dramatic than it was in the end.
So, I'm looking forward to this second half of the season.
