07 - Can't You Hear Me Knocking?

With Dr. Dawn Bell (Michelle Nolden) on temporary leave, Dr. Shahir Hamza (Huse Madhavji) has taken up the hospital’s top post as Interim Chief, bringing Hope Zion Hospital up to his strict standards for care and composure. But when a PhD candidate is diagnosed with an aggressive brain tumor and given only months to live, Dr. Alex Reid (Erica Durance) must convince the new chief to okay a dangerous and experimental treatment that could give her patient another shot at life. Meanwhile, Dr. Charlie Harris (Michael Shanks) has his hands full in the spirit world, juggling the transgender sprit of a gravely injured football coach, “Spirit Caroline” (Monika Schnarre, THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL), while he also deals with a palliative nurse, Kristine Fields (Nicole Underhay, MURDOCH MYSTERIES), who claims she can see spirits as well. With the life of his patient on the line, Charlie must decide if he can own up to his own truth and tell the nurse about his secret.

Interesting synopsis. Considering, I've managed to watch the whole ep now. I won't spoil things, but I think they handled a difficult storyline well.

Last thing first...not sure what I think about having another ghost seer in the hospital. I know Randall can see them as well, so maybe it's not quite as rare as one would think. I am curious if we will see more of and learn more about the nurse. Did she have a head/trauma injury like Charlie and Randall, or was she born with the ability? This could be what causes Charlie to do the digging that was mentioned in various season previews.

Very interesting story with Charlie and Caroline, but it almost felt open-ended. Confused a bit in the last scene with the son, he almost seemed to know his father was hiding something. And then Caroline disappeared a little sooner than I expected. I'll have to watch the scene again.

Glad we're seeing some follow-ups on patients, and Dana working her magic again.

Of course I want Dana to pull through. I would hate for the show to lose her and Wendy Crewson. They didn't tell us yet how advanced the cancer is, so maybe she has a chance to fight it. But I can't help imagine her ghost encounter with Charlie if she loses the battle.

I can see where the female ghost see'r is going... it is a drama after all. He is going to want to talk to her and of course Alex will get jealous because he can talk to her and not to herself.. sigh

It was great seeing Shair again...been a while.

Will have to watch again to take in everything but a damn good story!

This will surely cause problems between Charlie and Alex, since she can't share this with him, and now another woman can...

In the end the son said that he loved his dad and that was the resolution for the father who felt he could now leave, but I agree that they didn't tie up the knots in this one too well...

Sadly, once breast cancer returns, this isn't a good sign... sigh... at least in real life.

The biggest question some people are asking is whether Kristine (the ghost-seeing nurse) poses a threat to Alex and Charlie.

It all depends on how much of a regular character she becomes, but I don't see her as anything more than a potential friend and moral support buddy to Charlie. While Alex may never connect with Charlie 100% on the matter because she can't see the ghosts, she can offer support by simply listening and talking to him about his ghost of the day. I know she's seemed a bit turned off by the subject the past few episodes, but she should be more than willing to discuss them in general, away from the workplace.

Even if Charlie and Kristine develop a professional relationship I don't think he would take it to the next level and jeopardize his life with Alex.
