14 - You Can't Always Get What You Want

When a perennially sick child is admitted to Hope Zion Hospital, Dr. Alex Reid (Erica Durance) and Dr. Jeremy Bishop (Peter Mooney) struggle to get to the bottom of the child’s long list of illnesses. As they continue to dig, however, all signs begin to point to the mother, forcing Alex and Jeremy to walk a tightrope to get to the truth. Meanwhile, Dr. Charlie Harris (Michael Shanks) treats Davey Law (Alex Carter, CSI: CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION), an aging Sci-Fi actor for a neck injury, and in the ward Dr. Maggie Lin (Julia Taylor Ross) is clinging to the mantra “better safe than liable.” But when the victim of an armed robbery pleads with her to remove the bullet, Dr. Dana Kinney (Wendy Crewson) helps the gun-shy Dr. Lin re-discover the joys and rewards of compassionate medicine. This episode of SAVING HOPE is directed by Michael Shanks and features a special guest appearance by ETALK Anchor Danielle Graham.

Huse yesterday posted a pic of him doing brain surgery... have to assume it is Charlie and they changed the script according to him so can only guess what the original said...

Another great episode from Dana... now we have to wait...

Nice story with the kid... and as usual Michaels directing was brilliant.

Why oh why did they give him an episode about 'fandom' though? I am a person that goes to conventions and they are not like that at all! The most that the actors do is photo shoots in costume... even Jeremy Bulloch ie Boba Fett does costume shoots and all the money goes to charity. Yes some actors do do conventions because it is the only way to get paid, which is very sad, but most do it because it is fun and they have a great time interacting with fans. It did take William Shatner a long time to understand fandom it was not until he went in disguise to a con he realised that fans where having a lot of fun. And it is also a release from the real world for few days something we all need sometimes it is just that us fans do actually do it rather than think about it.

Poor sci-fi fans are an easy target. I wonder if it was a kick for Michael to film/direct those scenes or if some parts felt like a low blow. I'm just happy Michael himself has had a successful post-SG-1 career and hasn't been confined to sci-fi roles. And Mega Snake did cross my mind a time or two

Wonderful directing job by Michael and great job by Dana/Wendy Crewson as usual, and the little boy. Somehow I didn't suspect he was doing it to himself.

Loved the last shot with Charlie, Alex and the mirror. As usual his ghosting was related to his own issues and is making him think twice about the tumor situation. Thought he was so cute in the beginning in Shahir's office, couldn't blame Alex for the eye rolls

I agree Kris, I think it's Charlie that Shahir is working on, and I think the tux photos Michael tweeted means Charlie is having another out-of-body experience while in surgery.

Really enjoyed episode and Michael shanks direction was great (the continual movement of staff and patients around each set piece was very effective). Poor Charlie, Alex needs to listen to him rather than "I'm right, your wrong" attitude, the same she used on Dana.

Will we ever see Dr. Storms?  They keep mentioning him/her.  I guess they're a plastic surgeon, and not too highly regarded.  Kinda funny they've never shown them on screen.
